When working on the go, you might be happy to work on your laptop’s keyboard. After all, laptop keyboards have come a long way and are, mostly,  as comfortable to work on as standalone keyboards.

The problem is, however, that if you use a laptop stand to raise your laptop to eye level, you will need a separate keyboard to type on.

In this guide, we present the very best wireless, portable keyboards in the market today. We focus on compact models for easy portability and wireless or Bluetooth connectivity, with a preference for Bluetooth. After all, the wireless receiver uses up a USB port and USB ports are becoming a rarity on modern laptops and to have to sacrifice a port for a mouse or keyboard is a shame.

Connection: Bluetooth 3.0
Supports:

Weight: 14.92 oz (423 g)
Rating: 4.9 out of 5 stars (4.9 / 5)

PROS CONS
  • Compact
  • Excellent build quality
  • Triple Bluetooth Connection
  • Affordable
  • Long battery life
  • A bit heavy
  • Round keys might not please everyone

The Logitech K380 is probably the best portable Bluetooth keyboard you can buy at the moment.

The rounded keys are a bit weird to use at the beginning, but they become comfortable in use pretty quickly. The keyboard layout is not specific for any platform, but it’s perfectly usable with PC, Mac, IOS, Android and Chrome OS. The K380 connects through Bluetooth to your device and it has 3 handy yellow keys that support each a connection to a specific device, which means there is no need to reconnect between devices as you switch between them.

The K380 is very compact and portable, but a little bit on the heavy side. The battery life is excellent. Logitech claims 2 years battery life on two AAA batteries, and that’s assuming 8 hours use per day.

PROS CONS
  • Very light and thin
  • Backlit keyboard with switchable colors
  • Built-in rechargeable lithium battery
  • Connect via Bluetooth to most devices
  • Very cheap
  • Plastic build

The Arteck HB030B is a big hit on Amazon, and there are few reasons why. It’s very lightweight and thin, making it the ideal keyboard for those that need to carry it around in a laptop bag.

The HB030B connects to your devices using Bluetooth 3.0, and while it doesn’t support 3 devices at once like the Logitech K380, it will remember your last connection when you connect again. The Arteck’s keyboard is backlit and you can choose between 7 colors if changing colors from time to time makes you happy.

Finally, this keyboard has a built-in rechargeable lithium battery that will last 6 months when used 2 hours a day. Under heavy daily use that time will be seriously reduced, and even more, if you use the backlight, but a charging cable is included in the package.

  • Pair 3 Bluetooth devices
  • Expensive

The Logitech K810 can rightfully be called a premium product. It features a sleek design in aluminum, the keyboard is backlit and has an ambient sensor that automatically adapts the backlight to the ambient lighting. Also, there is a proximity sensor that deactivates the backlight when you’re not typing.

Battery wise, the K810 has a built-in battery that lasts anything from 10 days (2 hours a day use with maximum backlight) to 1 year with no backlight.

Connection: Bluetooth 4.0
Supports:
Windows, Mac, IOS, Android
Weight:
6.3 oz (178 gr)
Rating3.9 out of 5 stars (3.9 / 5)

PROS CONS

  • Connects to anything
  • High-quality build
  • 3 months of usage on 1 charge
  • Very flat design (no tilt possible)
  • Keyboard layout takes a while to get used to
  • A bit pricey

The Microsoft Universal Foldable keyboard is a very compact and light portable solution and folds up to the size of a CD booklet (if you remember those). Once unfolded, the folding gap does take a bit of getting used to. The keyboard also sits flat on the table, offering no possibility to tilt it up for a better typing angle.

On the bright side, the keyboard has a rechargeable battery, and under moderate use should last for as long as 3 months. It’s also splash resistant.

The Universal Foldable keyboard supports Bluetooth 4.0, which explains the long battery life. It “remembers” two devices and according to the Microsoft, it can connect to various platforms, including Android, IOS, PC, and Mac.

Windows, Mac, IOS, Android
Weight:
10.2 oz (289 gr)
Rating4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

PROS CONS
  • 6 months battery life
  • Connects to most platform
  • Bluetooth
  • Affordable
  • Maybe build quality on the long term

Arteck Stainless Steel Universal Bluetooth Keyboard looks sophisticated while being very compact and quite light. The keyboard itself should please most users with its classic layout. The keys aren’t backlit, but on the other hand, the integrated battery will last for 6 months under moderate use.

This keyboard will connect with most platforms, including IOS, Android, PC, and Mac. The quality feels good, with rubber keys, and a stainless steel frame. Add to all this a very affordable price and this becomes a very attractive offer for mobile users.

One thing that might hold buyers back is the fact that Arteck is a generic, unknown Chinese brand. That being said, they do give a two-year warranty on this products, so that should count for something.
